GET TO KNOW THE CHEFS AT ISCAHM: Meet Chef Jamie Montero, ISCAHM Cebu's - Instructor for Pastry and Bakery Arts!
Chef Jamie is a graduate of The Art Institute of Washington in Arlington, Virginia where he took up Culinary Arts and majored in Baking and Pastry Arts. His passion for pastries led him to study again this time at ISCAHM where graduated with honors.
Soon after graduating he landed a job as the R&D and Pastry Chef of Il Padrino Coffee and Restaurant and later on moved to Sulo Riviera Hotel were he started as a Commis II. Through hard work and showing the skills he learned in school, Chef Jamie was promoted to Chef du Partie and then Head Pastry Chef within 6 months.
In 2015, Chef Jamie joined Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel and Villas, where he was in charge of the hotel's pastry shop. His talent didn't go unnoticed and was offered to be the Head Chef of L'Artisan Gourmand in Abu Dhabi where he stayed for over a year and was able to open two branches. And at 27 years old, Chef Jamie's final stint abroad before moving back to the Philippines was as Senior Chef de Partie at Sofitel Abu Dhabi Corniche where he worked for three years.
Today, Chef Jamie is a Pastry Chef Instructor at ISCAHM Cebu. "It is an unexpected dream job. I never thought I would teach, but teaching keeps me on my toes, entices me to do research. Teaching pastry keeps you innovative and up to trend so you can pass it onto your students. Lastly, it is the most fulfilling job, seeing your students start with basic knowledge to creating intricate desserts."
