The Department of Tourism, Region 2 concluded the Seminar on Fun Farms Product Development on April 26-28, 2023 in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya. This three-day activity was actively participated by forty-four (44) Farm Tourism Owners and Managers from the various municipalities in the Province of Nueva Vizcaya
The conduct of this activity has provided the participants with relevant knowledge which include topics on the Context of Farm Tourism, Preparing Farm for Tourism Services, Government Programs for Farm Tourism Operators, Farm Tourism Act of 2016, DOT Accreditation Standards, Farm Tourism Package Development and Farm Safety and Security.
The participants were also given the opportunity to benchmark in the DOT- Accredited Farm Tourism Sites situated in Bayombong area and the emerging farms in Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya. The benchmarking activity served as an avenue for them to observe the best practices that can be applied in their respective farms. Through this training, the participants were hopeful that they can furtherly enhance their farm tourism products and services and be a DOT-Accredited Farm Tourism Site.
The subject matter expert for this three-day training was Mr. Keneth C. De Gracia, a DOT - Accredited Speaker and formerly the Director for Tourism Operations of Costales Nature Farms in Laguna, the first DOT Accredited farm tourism destination in the Philippines. He is also an accredited national trainer and assessor of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for Organic Agricultural Production and Agro-entrepreneurship.
Acting Provincial Tourism Officer Marichelle O. Costales of Nueva Vizcaya Tourism Office attended the opening program and shared significant updates on their farm tourism initiatives in the province. DOT Regional Director Troy Miano also addressed the participants during the day 2 session of the training. In his message, he emphasized the impact of farm tourism services in providing an enjoyable and meaningful travel experience for both domestic and international tourists, including its contribution to the tourism statistics.
The group also elected their set of officers for Nueva Vizcaya Farm Tourism Association. The association will represent the farm tourism sector of the Province of Nueva Vizcaya which will support the development and promotion of its farm tourism products.
